Sunday Open Thread
Hello, everyone, and welcome to the Sunday Open Thread! This is a weekly place for open discussion about how things are going right now.
And if you don't have anything going on right now you'd care to talk about, our alternate discussion topic is: What's your biggest pet peeve about job descriptions/any part of the application?
Have any suggestions for future open threads or ways to make this comm better? Leave them in comments! :)

My biggest pet peeve: I'm in tech, so the first thing I do is skim the requirements section before reading anything else. And I really hate the way the requirements sections that basically go "if you have not worked in an environment that you could only fit if you've already worked for this place, go away". I know why they do it -- they do not want me applying, they want to be able to ignore people like me who apply. BUT I HATE THIS SO MUCH. If you're going to advertize a job, don't make it so that only three people in existence fit the damn job. And I know they do it because they want to hire one of those three people AND NOT ME, but it's such a waste of my time and makes me so angry.
I feel that The Onion adequeately sums up my Feelings about this kind of thing.

Company I'm talking to wants tech people, so they told me to write a Groovy script. I went kinda nuts, fought my way through minimal documentation, and wrote a script with all kinds of error-checking and good programming practices. For three days.
I don't even know if I can do this job, and wonder if they are expecting some kinda clever hacks.
