This community is open to discussion about all aspects of job hunting. Below are my preliminary ideas for this comm. Please leave comments with more ideas, or just start posting!
This comm is for...
- General discussion about job hunting. Right now, I'm planning on weekly Open Discussion posts to stimulate discussion and allow an open forum. What are people's thoughts on this?
- Advice, running the gamut of "here are my skills, what job titles should I be looking for" to "HELP THIS APPLICATION WANTS X, I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THAT BEFORE AND THE JOB CLOSES IN TWO HOURS."
- Venting and ranting about the job search process.
- Many other things!
This comm welcomes...
- Open discussion, complaining, gushing, surprised relief, etc, about job hunting.
- Things that have worked for you.
- Recommendations and anti-recommendations for job hunting sites.
- Brains exploding from trying to reconcile all of the contradictory advice given about résumés.
- Many other things!
This comm has open posting, so please go ahead and post! I have left tagging open, so please tag your own posts. (This may change in the future if we experience a tag emergency.)
The Rules
We only have a couple! If you think there are some rules we should have that aren't listed here, please leave a comment.
- No shaming. There are so many degrading messages being sent to job hunters, so let's try not to have more of that here.
- People are experts on their own lives. So if someone says "I can't do a two-hour commute" or "I can't be on call", don't try to convince them that you know more about this than they do, or that we all have to make sacrifices, or that we all can't have our ideal job, or anything of that ilk. See Rule #1!
